Aung Khant Si Thu is a Bangkok-based multimedia journalist and documentary filmmaker reporting across Southeast Asia,
with a focus on conflict, human rights, transnational crime, and scam networks. He has worked with leading international outlets including Al Jazeera, Sky News, RTS, ABC Foreign Correspondent, and regularly collaborates with Der Spiegel and Swiss public broadcaster SRF.
As one of his primary roles, Aung works as a producer and director for Berlin-based Quintus Studios, where he covers a wide range of Southeast Asia stories for international documentary audiences. He has also contributed to Al Jazeera’s 101 East and Talk to Al Jazeera programs and worked with National Geographic’s award-winning series Trafficked, supporting pre-production and field research on cross-border investigations.
Aung’s reporting spans Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and beyond, covering armed conflict, political upheaval, forced migration, environmental crises, and the rise of regional scam operations. Known for his fast, accurate, and human-centered work, he is recognized for both rapid news reporting and long-form investigative documentaries.
As a director and producer, Aung is passionate about telling character-driven stories that explore the deeper social and political forces shaping the region. His recent work has focused on youth resistance under military rule, women-led armed groups, and the human toll of organized crime and displacement.
